The five-year span from 1886-1890 marked the high point (and end point) of Vincent Van Gogh's art career, providing unparalleled paintings from a troubled genius. It was to be an age of post-Impressionistic color, form and wonderment that the art world discovered only after the master's death. Bouts of anxiety, mental illness and epilepsy may have tormented him and brought about his suicide at the age of 37. But they may also have been catalysts for an emotionality and vibrance in his art that reveals a turbulent search for grace.

This volume displays 40 Van Gogh portraits and self-portraits in a digitally restored state their eye-popping brilliance and vitality are just as on the day Vincent Van Gogh finished them. Unless otherwise noted, they were originally oil paintings on canvas. Technical Note These images are in color -- they render beautifully in optimized gray-scale tones for black-and-white e-book readers, but exhibit even more stunningly in full color with color readers and inside apps for color-enabled computers and portable or hand-held devices.

Van Gogh Portraits and SelfPortraits Illustrated Affordable Portable Art edition by Vincent Van Gogh Arts Photography eBooks

Van Gogh's, " Portraits and Self Portraits offer insight into his inner thoughts or some of the problems of his life. When looking at the portraits whether they are of him or other people his main concentraition is on the eyes, and the eyes appear to reveal inner depths of self pain. The only portrait that appears untroubled is the kind demeanor of his mother.

Van Gogh uses the post-expressionistic style in the portraits because they have a component of realism whereas in some of his other paintings are just illusions of life with concentration on color and movement.

The portraits are very good and the painting technique is excellent. He continues to use lots of colors and the strokes are very goods.

Van Gogh Portraits and SelfPortraits Illustrated Affordable Portable Art edition by Vincent Van Gogh Arts Photography eBooks Reviews

After looking at this my opinion is that it's worth the price. The images are nice and can see brushstrokes detail but not to the extent I was wishing. I add that the description of content is accurate and I was not disappointed. I am beginning to wonder if van Gogh or others ever painted on top of photographs or similarly experimented along that?
This is a good collection to add to the "Van Gogh's Nightscapes" collection. It's beautiful. Van Gogh's painting have life and color and style. In short, his stuff is great and this collection brings lots of his great works to you right to your Fire. Your own museum right in your home to peruse at your leisure.
Just perfect for my iPad! Not so great for , since no color.
