The Alzheimer’s Guidebook by Sherri Largent, R.N. Alzheimer’s/Dementia is out there in our world and creating distress and sadness in the lives of millions of people every day…and more in years to come. It’s talked about in the news, on the radio, television shows and in our homes. The numbers of those who have already been diagnosed with this disease are staggering… MILLIONS!!! And who is going to be taking care of these people? If it is not the family, it is hired caregivers at home, or staff in a facility for Alzheimer’s/Dementia. ARE THEY PREPARED? HAVE THEY BEEN TAUGHT AND KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT? Will they respond to situations with compassion and understanding while maintaining the patient’s dignity as well as his/her care? And what happens when an Alzheimer patient needs to go to the hospital. Are staff knowledgeable in the care of these patients? These are important questions! Families try their hardest to deal with their loved one who has this disease, and it is frustrating, stressful and heartbreaking. Alzheimer’s not only affects the patient and the family, but it affects friends of the family, also. Most have not been taught what to expect or how to properly care for them to make things easier. Many facilities hire staff who have never worked with Alzheimer’s patients and the results are poor care for the patient, as well as increased stress, worry, and ill feelings for the family and friends. I was fortunate enough to have worked in a facility that was well-knowledged in the realm of Alzheimer’s. As a Registered Nurse, working for hospice, I had the opportunity of managing the care of Alzheimer/Dementia patients for over nine years (on a daily basis) in all aspects of their disease process. I shared in the lives of their families. I watched, learned and listened…and took notes. From those notes, I comprised my guidebook. It is based upon actual stories told, factual information shared and put together with tips, scenarios, medical advice and comments on what to do in a multiple of situations. When families and friends have improved their knowledge and understanding of this disease, the care is better, there is less stress, less sadness and more joy…for all. This guide provides them with the knowledge needed as well as a compassionate understanding of the disease. My hopes are to have this book affordable to all who would need it. If Alzheimer’s increases at the rate they say it is, and only one-quarter of the people who need this information read this book, then it is that many more Alzheimer’s patients that will be better taken care of and that many more families and friends that will have less sadness and less stress in their lives.

OMG! What an eye opener. I was already somewhat familiar with alzheimer/dementia but not at all to this degree. The book is a "must-have" for anyway who has a family member or friend with alzheimers. The author takes you into the everyday life of alzheimers, what to expect of the disease, and how best to deal with the disease. It took me just about 2 hours to read the book; and I am so glad that I did. Two thumbs up to the writer!! Awesome book!Product details

The Alzheimer Guidebook eBook Sherri Largent Reviews
Im a CNA who worked in memory care (alz-dementia care) for almost five years. this book was really easy to read and it describes exactly how it is when you are with people who have had or just getting into problems that arise when dealing with people that have these problems, I found myself remembering almost the exact same scenarios described in this book and it helps to understand some of the things that go on in dealing and living with alzheimers. I see this book helping to understand a little better what is going on and how maybe others view themselves.it is a great book that can be read fairly quickly and u will learn a lot. it is a truly heartfelt book written by someone u can tell truly cares and has been there and learned and passing the stuff learned as simply as possible
I am a nurse also and have had interaction and cared for patients with Alzheimer's. I found that this book had the insight that someone with years of experience could only have. Valuable insight which only can help someone caring for a family member or a patient with Alzheimer's. Helped me to realize so many different scenarios which I would not of even thought of. Very well written and easy to read.
